because they taste chocolatey, not sugary.
Delessa chocolate spreads offer alternative treats friendly to folks with dietary restrictions on sugar, carbs, processed foods, and additives. The glycemic load in a serving of our chocolate is lower than in products that use coconut sugar and far lower than in treats that use agave, honey, fructose, sugar cane, and other fruit sweeteners. Our chocolate spreads contain organic raw unprocessed ingredients:
Finding alternative treats that taste good can be challenging. Our community has provided positive feedback, saying that Delessa chocolate spread rates among the best tasting alternatives. Even folks who don’t have to avoid gluten, dairy or sugar have shared with us that they love our chocolate!
We received so much encouragement and positive feedback that we decided to launch our chocolate commercially. We achieved crowdfunding in late 2022 to jumpstart the business. We currently produce 3 different blends, and have been developing new products. Glycemic Load (eGL) per serving*; Delessa chocolate spreads are delicious treats for anyone, and especially for those with certain restrictions: Our chocolate is friendly to most Vegan, Paleo, Keto, Low Carb, and Raw Food diets, and some other restricted diets that avoid dairy, sugar, gluten, etc. Delessa uses no Sugar Alcohols as sweeteners.**

HISTORY
For years we have been making our special chocolate for a small community of family and friends. Some of us can’t eat sugar or dairy; Some can’t eat nuts; Some Delessa fans don’t even normally like chocolate but love Delessa; We also have fans who have no dietary restrictions whatsoever, but love the deep rich dark chocolate taste without overbearing sweetness. We have fans who like it a little sweeter, so we have now developed a sweeter blend for them that retains our commitment to those with restricted diets and a minimal glycemic load per serving.
The original blend of Delessa chocolate spread was created about 15 years ago to meet an important need: chocolate treats for restricted diets. The creators of Delessa chocolate spreads struggled with health issues. After a few years we created a version without the cashew butter (no nuts except coconut) to address our even stricter dietary needs. There was literally nothing on the market to satisfy the need for treats, especially chocolate without flour, gluten, dairy, and some type of sugar (or sugar alternative) that spikes glucose. Today it is still difficult to find healthier chocolate treats that don’t have an added sweetener that can spike blood sugar, or that is processed in some way, or that can cause digestive issues.
Our intent is not only to fill in the gap where other treats leave off, but also to introduce our enlightened chocolate as a delicious and nourishing snack for anyone and everyone.
